Hello my name is Sally. I am a bilingual teacher, teaching in the Yokohama area.
I think the best trait about my teaching method is that I can understand the problems and the fear that most Japanese people feel when they are learning English.
I like to get down to more personal level than just teaching my students the language.
As I have lived both in United States and Japan, I can understand more of the cultural differences and the different feelings that many people receive in different situation that usually comes from the difference in culture.
I believe that it is that GAP that makes it harder for many Japanese people to express themselves when it comes to speaking in English.
I like using poems, movie scripts and other artistic materials as well in teaching English then just using a text book.
I like to have my students try to express what they feel within their hearts then just talk about the situation or what they did that day- which often times are the case with English lessons.
But in real life, you don't just talk about what you did that day, or how the weather is, you talk about how you felt when certain things happen.
So I like to help my students express their feelings in English, and I think I am able to do that because I can understand both the Japanese and the American side in me.
Hope to see you soon!
* Currently I teach at Yokohama station on Thursday mornings, Saturdays at Hiyoshi and other days can be negotiated as long as it's within my area.
